[Dnsmasq-discuss] dynamic and fixed leases problem

Hi, I'm using IPCop which has dnsmasq providing the dns caching and dhcp
service. I have a problem with fixed leases.

Some of the devices attached remember their lease assignment when powered
off, and re-request it on startup. This causes a problem when attaching new
devices which should have fixed leases to the network. Basically, the
easiest sequence (with IPCop) is to attach the device then assign the device
a fixed lease when it has been recognised. Devices which re-request the
dynamic lease they were originally given are assigned the old lease even
though there is a fixed lease with a different address defined for that
device. On some devices even power-off + power-on doesn't get it to forget
the previous lease.

This is, to my mind, and error. If a device has a fixed lease defined, a
request for a (dynamic) lease with a different address should be refused.

Is there an error in the configuration with IPCop, or is this a "feature" of
dnsmasq? Is the behaviour there for a reason or unintended?

IPCop uses version dnsmasq 2.45.

Thanks for any comments or advice,

David
