Thx for the quick reply, Simon:

The problem is I need to ensure that the rest of the environment can
still boot properly, should anything reboot while this alternative
setting is in place. If not for that I'd just modify the default values
directly and not mess with the tags.

IOW, I want this one system to boot an alternate image, and ONLY this
one system, while the rest of the systems continue to boot the standard
way.

Well, that would mean replacing the default Red Hat EL package, which
I'm really not in a position to do, or else shipping my own build of
dnsmasq along with my kit and running that instead of the default one,
which I could do but that would definitely complicate my life.

What I can do is to compile up a later version of dnsmasq on my test
system to see if that fixes the problem; at least we'd have that data
point.

I'll also use log-dhcp; I do see that in my man page so I'm hopeful it's
supported.

I have to run out for an hour or so; I'll email when I have more info.
In the meantime any other options to try are welcome.

The oddest thing, to me, is that I definitely tested this a number of
weeks ago and it _worked_. So bizarre.
