[Dnsmasq-discuss] local host as cname target

Hi,

I'm using cname options in dnsmasq.conf to specify logical names for
hosts on the local network. This does not seem to work if the target is
the local host; dnsmasq can't resolve the logical name.

According to the manual, a cname target "must be a DNS name which is
known to dnsmasq from /etc/hosts (or additional hosts files), from DHCP,
from --interface-name or from another --cname".

For now, I have added a line to an existing additional hosts file
assigning the local host's IP address to the logical name. Is there a
more eleqant solution, e.g. an option in dnsmasq.conf, may be even
involving cname after all?

Thanks in advance,
Malte
