I am running the package in debian etch:

dhcp-sss:~# dpkg -l dnsmasq
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii dnsmasq 2.35-1 A small caching DNS proxy and DHCP server
dhcp-sss:~# dnsmasq --version
Dnsmasq version 2.35 Copyright (C) 2000-2006 Simon Kelley
Compile time options IPv6 GNU-getopt no-ISC-leasefile DBus I18N

So I will try an upgrade.
