It's been a few months since I encountered the need, and I believe I 
consulted syslog and found it inadequate, but I don't recall the specifics.

At the time I was setting up openresolv:
http://roy.marples.name/projects/openresolv/wiki

which includes scrips for updating Dnsmasq via DBus, and something was 
incomplete with the setup, but I got it working adequately to get work 
done, and put it aside.

I mostly sent this question now, because I subscribed to the list for 
the other matter I posted about and I hope to get back to tie up the 
lose ends with openresolv. I'll have to get back to you with more 
specifics once I've refreshed my memory on the details.
