you have logical error there.
the "default server" is the server where "everything else" is sent.

if you want to send "example.com" and unqualified names to server X and
everything else to standard server Y, try specifying:

server=Y
server=/example.com/X
server=//X

alternatively you can specify server Y in resolv.conf
