In my opinion, multiple hostnames should be accepted. So I would not 
return an error, I would map them all to the same IP/MAC. They currently 
are; but any hostname named with hyphen/s in it must currently not be 
the first one in the list after the mac address.

So to recap: IMO the multi-host functionality should be retained, but 
the sequential limitation described above removed.

In my case I like to add the installation year in the hostname, but for 
usability I also use a generic alias as well. Precisely like in the 
example I provided so "nas-2024" but also simply "nas". Both have a 
value to me.
