Poking around BSD man pages, I find, in man 5 fdescfs, the statement
For linux(4) ABI compatibility mount fdescfs volume with linrdlnk option.
Since the code in dnsmasq is just assuming that /dev/fd behaves like
Linux's /proc/self/fd that may be important.
It says of linkrd: "Report the type of the fdescfs vnode as VLNK
instead of FreeBSD traditional VCHR."
I don't know what that means and if it matters but it would be good to
understand: I'd like this to work on *BSD without having to set Linux
compatibility flags.
