I'm confused, if you set "Automatic proxy" then Firefox should find the 
proxy via WPAD. Is that working?

Note that if you have Linux clients and not windows ones, you need to 
use the DNS version of WPAD, Linux distros don't have an API for 
browsers to do DHCP.
